I can’t really believe that this day has finally come. I am writing this post sitting on the sofa in my Mum & Keith’s house. Yesterday I got my hair cut/coloured (with hopes it will last) and this afternoon I have (very fun) plans to de-hair and get my nails done – that is how I pre-travel.
Upstairs I have a pile of stuff ready to go into my giant yellow rusksack:

I’m sure it will all fit in eventually…
The Silk Road has always been somewhere that caught my imagination and this trip has been years in the thinking, and because I effectively planned it so long ago I am slightly concerned that I may have not planned enough for this trip (I am a planner). However, as I am flying in 6 days time I may have to get over that.
I am, in fact, re-reading some of the books I brought on the Silk Road, although I suspect that everything I have read is out of date. It will be interesting to see how the ideas that live in my mind differ from those of others and, most importantly, from real life.
For those of you who would like to get the most out of my blog, you may want to do a little pre-reading on the Silk Road:
