The eagle eyed amongst you (i.e. everyone) will surely be asking the question, why am I calling this a Silk Road trip when I am not actually going to China?
Well, the original plan (you recall the original plan?) would have had me starting my trip in Xi’an (which is traditionally considered to be the beginning of the Silk Road) and travelling due West via Kashgar and then crossing into (probably) Kazakstan. However, Covid restrictions mean that China only re-opened for tourism in March of this year and therefore it is still rather limited. So that is why.
However, luckily, I have actually been to China (back in October 2018) and although I did not travel along the Silk Road (as it were) I did visit Xi’an. I can therefore say, honestly, that I will have done the start and end of the Silk Road and thus this blog is actually accurately named. The end.
Some nice photos of Xi’an:
